Bus Topology

A Bus Topology is one of the simplest and oldest network designs. In this setup, every computer and network device is connected to a single central cable, known as the "bus" or "backbone."

⚙️ How Data Travels

Data transmitted by any node travels along the entire length of the cable in both directions until it reaches its intended destination. At both ends of the backbone, devices called terminators are installed to absorb the signal and prevent it from bouncing back and causing data collisions.

🛠️ Practice: Run the Simulation

✔️ Pros

It is very inexpensive to set up and requires less cable than other topologies.

❌ Cons

If the main backbone cable fails, the entire network goes down. It is also difficult to troubleshoot and performs poorly under heavy traffic.
